Earlier this morning, the Phillies officially revealed their new jersey, the City Connect edition which they will wear as an alternative uniform during the season. The instant reactions on social media have not been positive.

The jersey displays “Philly” across the chest in a font that gives off  beer league softball vibes. The  name plate and number follow that flow. On the arm, is the infamous “LOVE” logo but also in that aforementioned font. If that wasn’t enough of a turnoff, the jersey is a darker shade of blue with yellow lettering. The hat is pretty cool though. It features the liberty bell with the Philadelphia skyline inside. I would probably rock that design to be honest.

Anyone that knows me personally, knows I’m not wrapped up too tight. I have my quirks and weird habits like eating my cereal dry, and claiming to have Trypophobia. Those things I can try to adjust, but one thing that has always bothered me was the blue and yellow color combination.

I understand the choice here with these jerseys as it represents the Pennsylvania state flag. However, the Eagles throwback jerseys that gave a nod to the Frankford Yellow Jackets were awful. I don’t like the Golden State Warriors uniforms. The Milwaukee Brewers jerseys? Nope. The Nuggets and Pacers, not a fan. And I know this next one is an unpopular opinion.  The LA Chargers jerseys can go away too. Never liked that look. Although the powder blues aren’t AS bad, I’m still not in love with that comination as everyone else seems to be.

I don’t like to poo poo on someone who worked hard on designing something. Someone obviously took a lot of time to think everything through and thought about if the general public would like this or not. And with the Phillies having such a classic look, it was going to be difficult to design something that was so different from the norm that people would like it. That’s just a fact of it all. I just wish they would have designed these jerseys closer to the team colors in some way. That may have fanned the flames that are currently burning in ire of today’s release.
