Eleven years is a long time, especially when it comes to doing a podcast. There are over 5.5 million podcasts, and half of them don’t make it through three episodes. It takes commitment, effort, and the willingness to put together a show every week, and somehow we were able to do that for more than a decade.
Being able to get together with three of my friends on Friday night wasn’t exactly a tough thing to do. Downing some beers, many times trying new brews for the first time, while talking about sports, entertainment, and whatever we felt like, wasn’t a chore. It was something I looked forward to each week.
Until it wasn’t.
Over the last year or so it was getting tougher for all of us to get together. And when we did, while pregamming for the show, whether we were sitting around a fire or just listening to music, there were often times that we didn’t want to turn the mics on. We just wanted to relax. That’s when the reality started setting in that maybe this thing had run its course.
There’s nothing wrong with ending something before it gets ugly and that is what we decided to do.
With all that being said, we will never forget our experiences and the people we met and even forged friendships with. Whether it was listeners or athletes, people like “Cali”, or Matt from the Relief Room. Molly Dalton, and the Gregs from Sportstalk 916. The guys from Drunk Phils Fans and The Philly Philly Podcast. Former athletes like Scott Eyre, Brian Propp, Steve Jeltz, and Brett Myers. Writers in the area like Ed Kracz, or broadcasters like Jason Myrtetus. We are lucky to call these people friends. We would have never been able to do that without this show opening those doors.
Being able to talk with Brian Dawkins for an hour and half will forever be a memory I will never forget. We were scheduled for a 30 minute interview. It went about 45 minutes. After the recording stopped, he looked at us and said, “Now what do you guys REALLY want to ask me?”. We sat with him for almost an hour more, just talking about normal everyday things.
One person I really want to thank is Pat Mulranen. Pat ran a blog called Philly Sports Talk 101. He got Ryan and I onboard to write for them back in 2014. After we started CPS, he jumped on with us and has helped build our brand in so many ways and we thank him tremendously for all his hard work behind the scenes.
Of course, we thank you, the readers, the podcast listeners, the fans. Our occasional listeners and some of our constants like Jay Parr, Mark Polsky, Dave Peterson and Dave Lengle. Without you, we would not have made it this long. Maybe we would have been one of those staggering 3-and-out podcasts. You guys stuck with us throughout all of our shenanigans, our vulgarness, our immature conversations. Our bad takes, our drunk mumbling, and maybe once in a while, one of us falling off a bar stool mid-show. But in the end, we hope we were able to give you a lot of laughs and things to think about.
Thanks to you, we had become the number one ranked independently owned podcast in Philadelphia. (4th overall that isn’t owned by KYW, or NBC). That is no small feat, and something we are extremely proud and thankful for. (Look up Feedspot if you don’t believe us. )
As we close out these final few shows, I just wanted to let you know that our Facebook and IG pages will still be active, so we will still be around in some aspect, so feel free and reach out if you like!
We ain’t just yet, so enjoy the last bit of the ride with us.
Take care, and THANK YOU for everything!!!
