That Kansas City Chiefs were looking to make NFL history.

The Philadelphia Eagles destroyed those hopes in stunning and dominant fashion Sunday.

The Eagles destroyed the Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl 59, slamming the door on their hopes for a three-peat. The Eagles embarrassed them on the biggest stage of the season, a game seen all over the world.

There were many out there who predicted an Eagles’ blowout win. To me, that was just a little optimistic. The Chiefs usually don’t get destroyed, so why would they in a Super Bowl? I thought they would come out with this strong will to go after a three-peat. I thought defeating Patrick Mahomes would be harder than it was.

But that wasn’t the case.

Instead, it was a beat down in New Orleans.

The game was never close.

The defense was again superb. Vic Fangio turned this young unit around in just one season. They continually proved they were the top defense all season, and put the explanation mark on that with dominant campaign Sunday.

The Eagles led 24-0 at halftime. If I was told that before the game, I would not believe it. Who would?

Yes, Jalen Hurts and the offense were great. They scored when they had to. They should receive so much praise, especially Hurts.

But more on the Super Bowl MVP later.

This defensive outing was just too good.

Mahomes was rattled all game. He threw two awful interceptions, one being returned for a touchdown by Cooper DeJean, who celebrated his birthday, along with Saquon Barkley, with a Super Bowl victory.

Oh, and Barkley made history. He broke Terrell Davis’ record for the most rushing yards in the regular season and playoffs combined. Davis set the record in 1998 with 2,476 yards. Barkley finished with 2, 504.

Mahomes was sacked six times, 2.5 coming from Josh Sweat. Mahomes fumbled the ball, which Milton Williams recovered. Mahomes could get nothing going. The pressure on him was incredible. The Eagles’ front just shut the door on everything Mahomes wanted to do. Mahomes is one of the best quarterbacks right now, but not Sunday. He looked like a rookie who has never played in a big game before. It was laughable.

Winning in the trenches was crucial, and the Eagles’ defensive line outpowered the Chiefs offensive line.

The Eagles got 11 quarterback hits on Mahomes, who was shut out in the first half. Mahomes’ pressure rate (47.1%) was higher than his completion percentage (42.9%) in the first half. The Chiefs had 23 net yards of offense at halftime. Modtly all of Mahomes’ 257 yards were in the second half as the Chiefs had to play catch-up.,

It was an absolute onslaught.

The Eagles led 34-0 with 2 minutes, 7 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Mahomes threw three TDs near the end, but the final score was not indicative of the annihilation and humiliation that occurred.

Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt combined for 16 yards. They each only had three carries because the game got so out of hand very fast. Travis Kelce had ZERO yards at halftime, and finished with just 39. He was not even a factor in this game. Well, who really was?

Fangio, who had been 0-8 against Mahomes, and the defense could not have done any better.

Now, let’s get to Hurts!

It’s some respect on his name.

The Chiefs have a very strong rushing defense. They took away Barkley and held him to 57 yards. They dared Hurts to beat them with his arm, which he did. And he did so tremendously.

He threw for 221 yards with two TDS. He bad one bad decision that was intercepted. Outside that, he was flawless. He threw dimes, including on his TD pass to DeVonta Smith. He rushed for 72 yards. Hurts scored a TD after his 28-yard pass to Jahan Dotson to open up the scoring.

Can the doubting be over?

Can the skepticism finally end?

This is a quarterback who has been doubted since his collegiate career at Alabama, where he won a national championship.

His best two games of the season, maybe even his career, were the NFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl, the two most important games.

What more do people want?

When the running game wasn’t working, he stepped up and put the offense on his back.

I defend Hurts so much and, if people still want to say anything about him, that’s on them. All he does is win. Two Super Bowl appearances n three years, with one win.

The Hurts hate has to stop.

Another person who needs respect is Nick Sirianni.

Another winner!

Sirianni began the year on the hot seat after last season’s meltdown. Somsny people wanted him fired, but I didn’t. I get the Eagles collapsed last year after that 10-1 start, but that was no reason to fire Sirianni..

If that happened again thus year, then maybe.

But not after one season.

Sirianni has the second-most wins (including the playoffs) of any coach through the first four years of his career (54). Time to stop doubting him, too!

The Eagles will have some decisions to make in the offseason. They have a few players who are set to be free agents, like Sweat and Zach Baun, who also intercepted a pass Sunday. The Eagles have a young team and could be back in this spot next season, so every move counts. They can’t bring back everybody.

For now, just enjoy the second Lombardi Trophy in seven seasons!
