Howie hasn’t always been the best at drafting players towards the backend of the first round (Jalen Reagor, Andre Dillard, Marcus Smith etc.), but what he is great at is trading for players with insane value and giving as little as he can. Leading up to the draft, just like any Philly fan, I’ve been nervous wondering if the Eagles will fumble this pick like Brady fumbled the ball in Super Bowl 52… I’ve been looking into some possible trades the Roseman might be willing to make on draft day for some big time players.

Micah Parsons: Dallas Cowboys

I know he’s a Cowboy, but you can’t argue that he’s a really good football player. Sure trading for Parsons would cost a lot to trade for, but for a defense that ranked 26th in average yards allowed a game and 19th in total sacks we could use a big time edge rusher to replace Haasan Reddick. The Eagles did sign Bryce Huff this offseason, but will Huff be able to replicate his 2023 season again? Getting into the trade aspect of this idea obviously Philly would have to part ways with at least their first round pick and a player of some sort. I could see a trade like this being worked out

Cowboys Receive:

Eagles 2024 Pick 22

Eagles 2024 Pick 53

Josh Sweat

Eagles Receive:

Cowboys 2024 Pick 87

Micah Parsons

Now this trade is a long shot, but could be a possibility because there are reports that the Cowboys are willing to move on from Parsons for the right compensation. Parsons is also at the end of his rookie deal and although the Cowboys did just pick up his fifth-year option they might not have enough cap space to extend Parsons to a long term contract.

Patrick Surtain II: Denver Broncos

The Eagles cornerbacks aren’t what they where two years ago, we have Slay who seems to be running out of gas and James “Can’t Make a Tackle” Bradberry. Trading for a big time corner might be a better move for Howie rather than taking a shot on one towards the back end of the first round. Much like Parsons, Surtain is also near the end of his rookie deal but unlike Parsons Surtain is yet to be extended into his fifth year. The Broncos have already stated that they are willing to deal Surtain and seem to be in a desperate rebuild mode. The Eagles where one of the top teams expected to make a move for Surtain at the 2023 trade deadline, but never got a deal done. Here is the trade that I have in mind for Patrick Surtain II

Broncos Receive:

Eagles 2024 Pick 22

Eagles 2024 Pick 161

Josh Sweat

James Bradberry

Eagles Receive:

Broncos 2024 Pick 76

Patrick Surtain II

Again this is another long shot trade, but one that I could actually see happening. The Eagles have to part ways with their first round selection, but with their two second round picks and three fifth round picks (two if this trade happens) they could very easily trade into another first round selection.

Zion Johnson: LA Chargers

This is a trade I feel like wouldn’t happen considering the Eagles success with drafting offensive lineman, but it was just an interesting thought. Johnson is entering his third year in the NFL and looks to be a promising young talent. If this were to happen I don’t think that he would cost the Eagles their first round pick which would allow them to draft another position that is in need.

Charger Receive:

Eagles 2024 Pick 53

Eagles 2024 Pick 120

Eagles Receive:

Zion Johnson

Johnson would be a great fit on the Eagles working with offensive line coach, Jeff Stoutland, and would most likely become a superstar. Philly currently has a hole in their line with the retirement of Jason Kelce, and Johnson would be able to fill that void at guard with Cam Jurgens most likely making the move to center.

Trading Up In The Draft

The Eagles have traded up in the first round of the last three drafts, and I’m sure they will do it again. I can see Howie trying to make the move from 22 to maybe somewhere in the early teens to pick one of the higher end cornerbacks or one of the high end offensive lineman. I think making a move up to 15 or 16 makes the most sense for the Birds to try and grab someone like Quinyon Mitchell.

Colts Receive:

Eagles 2024 Pick 22

Eagles 2024 Pick 120

Eagles Receive:

Colts 2024 Pick 15

I think that a trade like this is the most likely to happen in the upcoming weeks as Roseman is always willing to trade up and down the order, I could also see a trade happening where the eagles trade on of their second round selection along with another pick to have two overall first round picks. Only time will tell what the Eagles ultimately do, but I for one can say that I am very excited to see what unfolds in the days leading up to the NFl draft.
