The Philadelphia Eagles fired offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, according to multiple news outlets.

The move comes after the Eagles fired defensive coordinator Sean Desai. The team also parted ways with senior defensive advisor Matt Patrica, who took over for Desai in the finals weeks of the season.

Johnson joined the Eagles as quarterbacks coach in 2021 and was promoted to offensive coordinator after Shane Steichen left to take the head coach position with the Indianapolis Colts.

After the Eagles’ season-ending collapse where they went from starting 10-1 to ending the season 11-6, coach Nick Sirianni had no choice but to make moves and bring in new coordinators.

As the quarterbacks coach, Johnson developed Jalen Hurts into an MVP-caliber candidate in the 2022 season. Hurts was a finalist for the MVP and Offensive Player of the Year awards and led the Eagles to the Super Bowl.

Hurts and the offense regressed when Johnson took over play-calling.

Hurts threw a career-high 15 interceptions. His passer rating dropped to 89.1 from 101.5 last season. The Eagles dropped from ranking third in points per game (28.1) to seventh (25.5) this season, they went from ninth in passing yards per game (241.5) to 16th (225.5) and finally they slipped from fifth in rushing yards per game (147.6) to eighth (128.8).

Another report also came out just a few days ago that there was some disconnect between Hurts and Johnson.

Under Johnson, the Eagles offense became too predictable each game and he never changed the calls, despite having a dynamic offense that could have hurt the opposition in multiple ways. He never made adjustments, and that was both his and the offense’s downfall.

Now, Sirianni has to make the right decisions in replacing Johnson and Desai to avoid another disaster next season.
