The Philadelphia Eagles just find ways to win, and that’s all that matters. But Sunday will be a difficult task as the Los Angeles Rams get back standout Cooper Kupp. Along with Rams rookie sensation Puka Nacua, the Eagles defense, which is already dealing with injuries, might be in for some trouble. Rams QB Matt Stafford is also averaging about 300 yards per game, and the Eagles have allowed the third-most TD passes in the NFL this season. Those receivers can get open, and the Eagles coverage has been concerning, especially last week against the Washington Commanders.
But again, the Eagles continually find ways to win. This matchup will be high scoring, for sure. I think the Jalen Hurts we all know is back. Hurts arguably played his best game of the season last week, especially in the second half. So, Hurts will be ready to play. It won’t be easy at all, but the Eagles have the better quarterback, and I believe that will be the difference. The Eagles are not hitting on all cylinders yet, but this might be the game the high-flying offense of 2022 returns. Well, if the offense doesn’t, it could be a long day for the Birds… unless the defense really steps up. The Rams are arguably the best team the Eagles faced this season, and we definitely did not think that when the schedule first came out.
Hopefully the offensive line can contain Aaron Donald. The Eagles need to stay at pace with the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC, and San Fran is probably going to 5-0 because the Niners should defeat Dallas. The Eagles will lose eventually. They can’t win every game, and I don’t expect them to. But right now, the Eagles are a better team than the Rams. This game will be tight, but we all saw how the Eagles performed in a close game last week. If the Eagles lose this game, it will be because of the defense. Trust me, the Rams will score and their passing game will make it a stressful watch. I just think the Eagles will outduel the Rams on offense, and that wins the game for the Eagles. And Jake Elliott will kick the game-winning field goal… again. Eagles, 33, Rams 28.

Back in March when the NFL released the schedule, this matchup against the Rams seemed like it could be an easy win based on how bad the Rams were last season. As discussed on this week’s podcast, Mike and I actually marked it down as the first loss of the season with the feeling that starting off 4-0, and traveling to the west coast, things could be set up for a let down game. Well, now that we are here in week 5, the circumstances look to be a bit more difficult for different reasons. The Rams are actually a decent team.
Revived by the play of rookie wide out Pula Nacua and running back Kyren Williams along with the return of Matthew Stafford, the Rams have played better than expected, and with the Eagles coming in after struggling against the Commanders last week, the ability to keep the Rams off the board may bode as quite the challenge. Can the line (who is missing Fletcher Cox) get to Stafford enough to disrupt him? Can the secondary survive the return of Cooper Kupp and deal with Nacua? I think they will leave us with more questions, but will it be enough to fall?
No. The Rams defense can be had.
They are pretty good at getting teams off the field on third downs, but aside from that, they don’t rank in the top 10 in many other categories. They are in the bottom half in red zone touchdowns, they don’t get takeaways, and allow 111 yards a game on the ground. Seems like another heavy workload for D’Andre Swift. That would help keep the time of possession in the Eagles favor and give the defense some much needed breathers. Still, this is going to be another nailbiter. The Eagles come up with some big plays late and pull off the win. Eagles 28, Rams 24

So here we are in Week 5, The Eagles go across the country to visit the thought to be mediocre Rams but they are more than mediocre. The Eagles have a number of starters out with injuries but have been able to come out on top the past 4 weeks. With their 4 and 0 record they did the same thing last season. It’s hard to complain when you’re undefeated but this is the NFL which stands for not for long! This is also Philadelphia which has an extremely passionate fan base and they will point out the inconsistencies. So here it is, if the Eagles come out and put slop on the field, they lose today’s match up. I think it’s a tight game But the Rams come out on top. Rams 30, Eagles 27
