The Philadelphia Phillies are well underway, but not in the way anybody really expected as they hold a 1-5 record at the time of this being published. The Philadelphia 76ers have two games left in the regular season, both on the road—one in Atlanta and the other in Brooklyn. The Flyers are wrapping up their objectively unsuccessful season, the Union is just getting started with their season, and the Eagles are knee-deep in draft preparation. There will be more about all the teams mentioned in the honorable mentions. 

The Philly Sports Stat of the Week will feature none other than Joel “The Process” Embiid and all of the statistical branches on the tree that was his marvelous 52-point performance against the Boston Celtics.

Stat #1: Joel Embiid’s official line — 52 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, 3 turnovers, 20/25 on field goals, 0/1 on three-pointers, 12/13 free throws, 3 fouls, and a +17 plus-minus in 39 minutes.

Stat #2: It is his career-high against those guys in green and white. Here’s his full career against Boston. 

Stat #3: Embiid was even better in the second half of this masterful performance. 

Stat #4: Embiid’s 52 points in a game are tied for 14th highest output this season. The full list is here and it features him three separate times. 

Stat #5: Embiid carried the Sixers on this and this stat indicates that in an obvious manner. 

Honorable Mentions: Conversational Stats

The honorable mentions will be dedicated to giving anyone who reads this site a stat to store in the back of their mind. I don’t like to assume but I tend to assume that anyone who reads this site is most likely the ‘sports person’ for someone in their life. I’m doing my small part to help you look smarter for anyone that thinks you are in fact a walking sports almanac and know everything about the sports world.

Honorable Mention #4: The Union’s U15 team has played exceptionally well against two club soccer powers, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. Munich is generally a top contender in the Bundesliga league in Germany and Madrid is sort of the same in La Liga in Spain.
