The season is not over.
The ultimate goal has not been achieved.
But the first step was accomplished Sunday.
The NFC-leading Eagles clinched a playoff spot with a dominating 48-22 victory over the Giants. That’s great, no doubt about it. Hopefully, no one is satisfied. At this point, anything less than at least an NFC Championship Game appearance should be a disappointment.

All around, the Eagles have been great this season. On Sunday, Jalen Hurts continued his MVP-season with a two-touchdown, 217-yard game. He added a rushing touchdown and 77 yards. Miles Sanders rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns. He is 66 yards away from 1,000 on the season. The defense, again, played well against a team which has exceeded expectations this season.
And how about that DeVonta Smith TD?!
Anyway, who thought the Giants would have a winning record going into Week 14? If you thought they would, well, you’re either a liar or a Giants fan.
The Giants have performed well this season, and Brian Daboll and his staff have turned the team around.
The victory Sunday was impressive for the Eagles.
Surprising? Not really because the Eagles were expected to win. Most thought the game would be closer, but the Eagles again flexed their muscle and continued to add respect.
Right now? There are four games remaining, and the biggest is in two weeks— a Christmas Eve matchup against the Cowboys.
Who hasn’t been looking forward to that since the schedule was released? The matchup is even better because of the magnitude and potential implications the game could have.
Dallas almost lost to the one-win Texans but, like most good team do, pulled out the victory in the end. Dallas’ defense is really good, there is no denying that. But its offense can be stopped. The Cowboys play the Jaguars next week, so they might just win.
But the Eagles should also beat Chicago.
The Eagles defeat Dallas, they clinch the NFC East. Philly will be three games above Dallas with two games left. The second step will be accomplished right there, and it’ll be a great Christmas present.
Another step? Winning the conference!
With the Vikings’ loss Sunday, the Eagles have a two-game lead (well, 2.5 because they have the tiebreaker). That was huge for the Eagles’ journey to the top-seed, which would result in a first-round bye.
There are many more steps to accomplish but, for now, let’s just enjoy the fact the Birds will be in the playoffs. But there should be many more to cross off the bulletin board in the coming weeks, such as winning a playoff game and, hop, reach the S***r B**l.
It starts with the Bears (can’t take them lightly).
Then, the Dallas game could make Eagles fans merry.
